Hapuseneb - by Maat-Ka-Ra-Hatschepsut

Hapuseneb served as High Priest of Amun during the reign of Hatshepsut and has left behind a tomb, statues and artifacts which allow us a small glimpse in the background of Hatshepsut's life. I will discuss the artifacts and statues at a later date.

See Maat-Ka-Ra-Hatschepsut

The information provided by the above link actually highlights an issue with my Hatshepsut Project Museum Database. Many of Hapuseneb's artifacts do NOT mention Hatshepsut, but we DO know he was active during the time of Hatshepsut. Do I include these artifacts? If i do, i feel a can of worms opening up in my face, but if i don't - am i depriving the database of information? This is a real concern.

My thanks to Dr Leser once more for your superb website.

Regards,
Stuart

Hi Stuart

Absolutely you should include everything that belongs to Hatshepsut's reign. Much of what belongs to her reign has nothing to do with her in particular but instead set the background of the culture she ruled.

I don't mean to water down your project certainly there are priorities but Hatshepsut was one of those rulers who could not have reigned without the support of the court regardless of her divine birth.

The officials are yet even more important in her reign because of this whether they mention her or not. The inscribing of a private monument may have occurred in a period where the ruling king may not have been certain.

Perhaps the monument was inscribed at the beginning of her reign or during the double rule with Thut.III or near or immediately after her death, it may just have been safer to not mention the reigning king but the monument should be of no less value because of it.

Hi Tim. I do see your point and thank you for your input. The spreadsheet thus far has a column labelled "Associtation with hatshepsut". It would not be difficult for me simply to enter "stylistically" or "belonged to Hapuseneb" as entries under association. At least then ALL items from her reign/lifetime can be recorded.

I will start another post..
